WP6 meeting/phone-call - July 9th 2008
Attendees:
- in Amsterdam: Zhisheng (VUA), Volker (Siemens), Marko (Cycorp), Lael (MPG), Daniele (Cefriel), Irene (Cefriel)
- via skype: Kono (Saltlux), Dario (Cefriel)
Agenda:
- Setup of deliverable D6.1
- paper at NEFORS workshop
- Plans for the future
- interesting data sources
- personal white night record generator
- Requests coming from scientific WPs
- Setup of next phone call
Discussion:
Presentation used for sparkling discussion: WP6-D6.1-setup.ppt
Short term vision: traffic predictor
Data from previous project in Cefriel: what kind of data, what size of dataset, availability in time and kind --> Irene to check with colleagues if it is possible to have a sample of those data, especially to understand the modelling of the environment topology
Models from previous project in Saltlux: data not public to be considered as confidential, different models of the environment in F-logic --> already sent to Emanuele
- Concrete plan: a possible activity plan could be (1) get sample of Milano data (2) circulate it and discuss if those data are interesting to be used in Larkc (3a) Kono to investigate if those data can be used with Saltlux U-City system (3b) Volker to investigate if those data can be used with Siemens tehnologies/system
Possible scenarios and queries: it would be very interesting to understand the expected "functionalities" of the Urban Computing use case, in terms of: (1) usage scenarios (2) user queries over the data --> Irene to create a page on the wiki to collect ideas for scenarios and queries; all other participants then are asked to contribute, on the basis of either their past experience or their personal feeling/expectations
Previous research in the field: it would be important to collect relevant literature about research in the management of traffic information, especially within the Semantic Web community (e.g. are there any ontologies to model urban environment, traffic, and so on?) --> Zhisheng to setup a page on the wiki to collect this kind of information; all participants are asked to contribute
Deliverable D6.1
We decided to deliver D6.1 as position paper at the NEFORS workshop (http://nefors08.larkc.eu/) --> Irene to check who the quality assessor is
- Draft table of contents and responsibility assignment:
Problem statement (e.g. as stated by the European Commission or by the Urban Land Institute) --> Irene
Solution constraints (not all solutions are good enough, there are many challenges) --> Zhisheng (for the first draft)
Requirements, coming from the peculiarity of involved data --> Zhisheng (to start it), all
- Data with different reasoning requirements (e.g. some data need OWA, others CWA)
- Time-variant data
- Sensor-based measurements and their uncertainty degree
- Unbounded data
- Real-time reasoning
- Approximation vs. goodness of results
- Implementation experiences before LarKC
Cefriel traffic predictor --> Irene
Saltlux U-City --> Kono
Siemens previous experiences in the field --> Volker
Vision: LarKC solution and impact --> Kono
- Deadlines and action items for the paper writing:
- July 18: Irene to setup the structure of the paper in LaTeX (Kono can contribute in Word or plain text if he prefers) and put it on SVN
- July 31: all to provide first contributions to the paper
- August 29: all to provide complete and consistent contribution to the paper
- September 15: all to agree on final version and Irene to submit the paper
Long term vision: plans for the future
There are a lot of interesting data sources publicly available on the Web (one example is the UK government initiative "Show us a better way" http://www.showusabetterway.co.uk/call/) --> we should try to collect links and ideas about their possible uses in the urban computing use case
- Brief discussion about the idea of a "personal white night record generator"
Requests coming from scientific WPs
We are all asked to provide feedbacks/requirements to WP1&5; in particular:
- check WP5 list of open questions
- write usage scenarios (like the one provided by WP7a) in order to understand how and why we use LarKC technologies
Next phone call
Next phone call is scheduled on July 25th at 10.00 CEST --> Irene to check if there's a suitable alternative to Skype in order to let Volker participate from his workplace
